Security Best Practices
LocalUSDT is built with security at every layer — non-custodial wallets, encrypted messaging, and on-chain escrow. But the strongest system is only as safe as its user. Follow these practices to protect yourself.
🔐 Account Security
Use a strong, unique password
Your password encrypts your master key. If you lose it, no one — including LocalUSDT — can recover your account. Use a password manager and generate a strong passphrase (16+ characters). Never reuse a password from another service.
Enable two-factor authentication
2FA is mandatory on LocalUSDT. For maximum security, use a time-based OTP app (Google Authenticator, Authy) instead of email-based 2FA. SMS is not supported because it's vulnerable to SIM-swapping attacks.
Back up your credentials
Store your password and 2FA recovery codes in a secure, offline location. Your password is the only way to decrypt your master key — there is no "forgot password" flow. This is a feature, not a limitation.
🛡️ Trading Safety
Always verify payment in your own account
Screenshots can be faked. Before releasing escrow, log into your bank or payment app and confirm the funds have actually arrived. Trade Shield helps detect manipulated screenshots, but your own account is the ultimate source of truth.
Use Trade Shield on every trade
Even if you're experienced, run the confidence checklist. Automated checks catch things humans miss — especially after dozens of trades when attention naturally decreases. The Basic tier is free and runs in your browser.
Start with small amounts
When trading with a new partner, start with a small amount to build trust. As you accumulate positive feedback, you can gradually increase trade sizes.
Check trader reputation
Every trader's profile shows their trade count and positive feedback percentage. A trader with 50+ trades and 98% positive feedback is much lower risk than a brand-new account. But remember — even reputable traders can have bad days, so always verify payment.
Keep communication in the trade chat
All trade messages are end-to-end encrypted and serve as the official record. If you need to open a dispute, the arbitrator can only see messages sent through the platform. Agreements made via Telegram, WhatsApp, or email cannot be verified.
🚩 Common Scams to Watch For
Fake payment screenshot
The buyer sends a manipulated screenshot showing a payment that was never made. Defense: Always check your actual bank balance. Use Trade Shield to detect image manipulation.
Reversible payment methods
The buyer pays with a reversible method (PayPal eCheck, credit card chargeback) then reverses the payment after receiving USDT. Defense: Prefer non-reversible payment methods like bank wire or cash deposit. Wait for payments to fully clear before releasing.
Pressure to release quickly
The buyer insists on immediate release, claiming urgency. Defense: Never rush. A legitimate buyer understands verification takes time. If they become aggressive, open a dispute.
Impersonation
Someone pretends to be a LocalUSDT admin or support agent and asks for your password or keys. Defense: LocalUSDT staff will never ask for your password, master key, or 2FA codes. All official communication happens through the platform.
Phishing sites
A fake website that looks like LocalUSDT asks you to log in, capturing your credentials. Defense: Always verify the URL is app.localusdt.app. Bookmark it. Never click login links from emails or messages.
